American Honda’s bestselling sedan has been totally redesigned for the 2018 model year. Forty-one years and 10 generations after it was first introduced to the US, the all-new 2018 Honda Accord is looking to retain its position as the bestselling mid-size sedan with notable improvements in comfort, technology, and fuel efficiency.

SPACIOUSNESS

The all-new 2018 Accord is more spacious than ever. Even though it is an inch shorter, the new design is close to a half-inch wider, and the wheel base has been lengthened by more than 2 inches, for a more stable feel on the road. Honda engineers also added more than 2.5 cu ft. of space in the cabin and almost an extra cubic ft. of space in the trunk. The extra two-inches of leg room in the rear seat will certainly be appreciated by your passengers. And Hybrid owners will be happy to know the batteries have been relocated, so the hybrid trunk is 16.7 cubic feet – the same as the trunk in the traditionally powered Accord, - and the largest in its class!

The cabin of the 2018 Accord has been upgraded to include more soft-touch materials and premium-look materials. The available 60/40-split folding rear seat allows you to make the most of the extra space when it's time to haul large items.

FASTBACK DESIGN

The European-inspired fastback design resembles a coupe – which is good timing since the 2018 accord is now only available in the Sedan body style. The Coupe body style has been discontinued for the 2018 model year.

POWERPLANT

The power plant of the Accord has also undergone significant changes.

• The old V6 was replaced by a 2.0L 252-horsepower turbocharged inline-four-cylinder – available with either:
  • A continuously variable transmission (CVT)
  • An optional 6-speed manual transmission in the Sport trim
• In their review of the 2018 Accord, Motortrend observed that “…the optional 2.0-liter turbo-four, the Accord offers strong acceleration, making it slightly quicker than its V-6-powered predecessor.”
• The old four cylinder engine has been replaced by a 1.5L. 192-horsepower turbocharged inline-four-cylinder that is available with:
  • A 10-speed automatic transmission
  • An optional 6-speed manual transmission in the Sport trim.
• A hybrid that delivers performance: The 2018 Accord Hybrid uses a non-turbo charged 2.0L gas 4 cylinder with a pair of electric motors to generate 212 horsepower.

By comparison, only the entry-level 2018 Camry “L” delivers more efficient MPG ratings that the 2018 Accord's with 29/41/34 (city/highway/combined).

CABIN ENTERTAINMENT

The entertainment center has also been greatly improved with a 7” or an available 8” display. It has also re-introduced real knobs for the volume control and tuning knob for greatly improved ease of use.

Pairing your phone with the vehicle’s infotainment system has been made much simpler. You just hold your phone near the “N” symbol on the dashboard and the pairing is done automatically using Near Field Communication(NFC). This feature currently supports Android phones with iPhone support coming soon.

The traditional gear selector has been replaced by “P”, “R”, “N”, and “D” electronic buttons. The buttons are located in the same area as you would have found the gear shift lever and they still consume the same space but your pocket book won’t get caught on the buttons as it can easily do with the old gear shift lever.

All 2018 Accord sedans come with the following innovative Honda Sensing® features:

• Rearview Camera
  • When you shift into Reverse (R), a real-time image of the area behind your vehicle is shown in the upper display, along with helpful parking guidelines.
• Traffic Sign Recognition
  • The monocular camera recognizes traffic signs, and displays the information on the Multi-Information Display or Heads-Up Display System.
• Forward Collision Warning
  • If it detects a vehicle is in front of you when your vehicle speed is 10 mph (15 km/h) or higher—and it determines there is a likelihood of a frontal collision—the system provides you with visual and audible warnings.
• Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Alert the driver of a potential collision and take steps to help mitigate the severity of a frontal collision if the system determines it to be unavoidable
• Lane Keeping Assist
  • Assists steering to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane, reducing driver fatigue.
• Lane Departure Warning
  • The monocular camera detects the lane that the vehicle is driving in (by detecting solid and broken lines), and the system warns the driver with vibrations on the steering wheel if the vehicle is likely to stray from the lane.
• Adaptive Cruise Control
  • The millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera detect the distance and speed gap from the vehicle ahead, and controls acceleration and braking to maintain an appropriate distance.
• Road Departure Mitigation
  • Alerts and helps to assist you if the system determines a possibility of your vehicle unintentionally crossing over detected lane markings while driving between 45–90 mph

• Rear Cross-traffic Alert
  • When backing out of a parking spot or a driveway, the driver is alerted to a detected vehicle.
• Blind-Spot Information
  • Alerts and helps to assist you if the system determines a possibility of your vehicle unintentionally crossing over detected lane markings while driving between 45–90 mph

Available Infotainment Features

• Apple Car Play and Android Auto
  • While your iPhone or Android phone is connected to the system, you can use the touchscreen to make a phone call, listen to music, and more
• Handsfree Text Messaging
  • Receive and send messages when paired and connected
• Bluetooth Phone
  • Make and receive phone calls using the vehicle’s audio system, without handling your phone.
• Streaming audio
  • Using Bluetooth, play streaming or stored audio from your compatible phone through the vehicle’s audio system.
• Mobile Hot-Spot
  • You can connect the audio system to the internet using Wi-Fi. If your compatible phone has hotspot capabilities, the system can be tethered to the phone.
• Pandora®
  • Play and operate Pandora from your phone through the vehicle’s audio system.

BASE PRICE

The base price of the 2018 Accord is only $23,570². This is impressive when you consider the Accord comes with a number of advanced features that are offered as expensive extra-cost options on competing models.

AVAILABILITY

The 1.5L Accord is currently available. The 2.0L Accord will be available later in 2017. The Accord Hybrid is expected to be available in early 2018.
